Sterndrive bellows are rubber “boots” that allow the drive to tilt and pivot while keeping the exhaust, U-joints, and shift cable dry. These may deteriorate and need to be changed frequently. Most frequently, exhaust bellows absorb displacements and vibrations and accommodate thermal expansion to reduce the motion/kinetic energy within the engine or transfer from the engine to expensive emissions systems. You’ll hear a roaring sound coming from the back of the boat if the leak is severe. That’s a telltale indicator. Water contaminating the bearing grease is what causes the bearing to rust. The thick rubber boot that connects the transom assembly to the upper drive housing is the bellows. Key Features:
