Volvo Penta created this sealing ring specifically for engines. The valves, lifters, and other parts will last longer and perform more smoothly as the efficacy of the valve cover seal is maintained. With “842913,” the two seals on this item can be changed as needed. A mechanical gasket in the shape of a torus is called a sealing ring, packing, or toric junction. It is an elastomer loop with a circular cross-section designed to fit into a groove during assembly between two or more pieces and be squeezed to form a seal at the interface. A molded elastomeric ring that has been “nipped” into the cavity where the seal is well-placed is an “O” ring seal.
